Lucknow, Sept. 16 -- The Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at Ram Prakash Gupta Maternal and Child State Referral Hospital -the gynaecological wing of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS)-is giving malnourished children a new lease of life. Among them is 1.5-year-old Divyanshi from Samta Colony in Chinhut block, admitted with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and a serious urinary infection. Within just 15 days of treatment and nutritional care, her weight rose from 7.1 kg to 7.7 kg, according to a press release issued on Monday. Doctors also counselled her mother on preparing nutritious meals. "From surgery to critical illnesses, the hospital provides every possible facility for mother and child care," said Dr Shrikesh Singh, medical superintendent, RPG Hospital. Dr Milind Vardhan, state programme manager (Child Health), Uttar Pradesh National Health Mission, highlighted that the state is addressing SAM and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) in children under five through community- and facility-based measures. These include NRCs, home-based care, ICDS, Poshan Abhiyan, and interdepartmental coordination. At RPG Hospital, the NRC offers medical treatment and nutritional management for malnourished children, counselling for mothers on breastfeeding and complementary feeding....
