NSUI to launch campaign forstudent union polls in UP
LUCKNOW, July 28 -- The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) will soon launch a campaign to demand the reinstatement of student union elections in colleges across Uttar Pradesh, national secretary Devki Patel announced at a press conference here on Sunday.
Patel, who is also NSUI UP wing incharge, said: "We will launch a state-wide campaign to pressurise the UP government into conducting student union elections. When the court in 2018 permitted the conduct of elections, why is the state government not conducting it?"
She also hit out at the state government for "depriving" children of education by merging schools. "Around 5,000 schools are being merged. We will oppose this move," she said.
Patel added that the issue of school mergers was previously raised by NSUI and had yielded some results. She alleged that colleges are not forwarding scholarship forms for SC, ST, and OBC students, affecting their access to education.
"We will stage a protest outside the CM's residence and demand the immediate conduct of student union elections," Patel, who also chaired a meeting of the state office-bearers.
