NR steps up preps for Magh Mela
LUCKNOW, Dec. 7 -- With lakhs of pilgrims expected to arrive in Prayagraj for Magh Mela 2026, the Northern Railway's Lucknow division has intensified its preparations.
Divisional railway manager (DRM) Sunil Kumar Verma on Saturday conducted a detailed inspection of Prayagraj Junction, Phaphamau and Prayagraj Sangam stations to review passenger amenities, crowd management plans and operational readiness.
Railway officials said additional waiting areas, drinking water points, temporary help desks and upgraded public announcement systems are being set up.
The installation work is in its final phase. To prevent long queues during peak Mela days, NR is setting up temporary booking counters.
Staff have also been deployed to assist and encourage passengers to use the M-UTS mobile ticketing system, which is expected to ease crowd pressure significantly.
With passenger footfall expected to surge, additional ticket-checking teams will be posted across platforms. Special squads will be deployed for crowd control and to regulate the movement of ticketed passengers.
Railway officials said holding areas, barricading, signage and passenger routing plans have been finalised to manage the expected rush....
