GORAKHPUR, April 11 -- The number of voters in Gorakhpur grew by 224,533 (2.24 lakh) to 3,245,441 (32.45 lakh) from the draft stage to the final electoral rolls, according to the final voter list published on Friday. At the time of draft publication on January 6, the total number of voters in the district 3,020,908 (30.02 lakh), said Gorakhpur district election officer/district magistrate Deepak Meena. Addressing a press conference at the Collectorate auditorium, Meena said the updated list includes 1,773,929 male, 1,471,316 female and 196 transgender voters. He described the rise in numbers as a sign of growing awareness about democratic participation and the proactive role of the election machinery. During the revision, 224,533 new voters were added, 18,132 names were deleted and corrections were made in the details of 242,665 voters, including name and address, he added. "The entire revision was conducted in a transparent and impartial manner in accordance with the Election Commission's guidelines," the DM said. Gorakhpur has nine assembly segments.
