GORAKHPUR, Oct. 8 -- Hours after a decomposed human body was recovered from an overhead water tank at the Deoria medical college, the body of a young man was found abandoned at a gate of the institute on Tuesday. Police said an auto-rickshaw driver abandoned the body at the Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College gate. They said the deceased's identity and the circumstances surrounding his death were being determined. The body had been sent for post-mortem, they added. CO (City) Deoria Sanjay Kumar Reddy said CCTV footage from the surrounding areas were being reviewed to trace the auto driver. "We are verifying all angles to confirm whether it was a natural death, a mishap, or a criminal case," he stated. Meanwhile, in response to Monday's incident, district magistrate Dibya Mittal formed a five-member committee to probe the matter. The committee, headed by the chief development officer (CDO), has been constituted on the directions of health minister Brajesh Pathak and is expected to submit its report within three days. Chief medical superintendent Dr HK Mishra clarified that the tank in which the body was found was used solely for water supply to toilets. "Drinking water is supplied from a separate tank. Hence, there is no question of contamination of the drinking water," he assured.
