LUCKNOW, Oct. 10 -- Former runners-up Uttar Pradesh continued their winning streak in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy Elite, notching up a convincing seven wickets win over J&K, at the PCA New Cricket Stadium, Ground B in New Chandigarh on Thursday. After restricting J&K for 114/8 while fielding first after winning the toss, Uttar Pradesh romped home with two overs to spare, losing just three wickets. Opener Muskan Malik failed once again and could make just three before being castled by Bismah Hassan in the innings second over in an Elite Group A encounter. But this didn't make a difference to fellow opener Sampada Dixit, who along with skipper Sonali Singh steaded Uttar Pradesh's innings, stitching together 64 runs for the second wicket. Before being caught by Bawandeep Kaur off Sandhya, stylish Dixit smacked 28-ball 36 with the help of six hits to the fence. Thereafter, Sonali along with Nishi Kashyap added 22 runs and almost took the side home. Sonali was caught by Bismah Hassan off Rudrakshi Chib after scoring 33, which came off 49 balls with the help of two boundaries. Kashyap remained unbeaten on 22, which came off 15 balls with the help of three boundaries, whereas all-rounder Anjali Singh also hit an unbeaten 15 in 11 balls with the help of one boundary, which was also the winning stroke for the side. Earlier, J&k relatively had a better start with openers Bawandeep Kaur (20, 23b, 2x4) and Chitra Singh Jamwal (5) adding 17 runs for the opening wicket. But once Jamwal was caught by stumper Kasyap off Garima Yadav, the wickets started tumbling on regular intervals. Though Rubiya Syed and skipper Jasia Akhter tried to adorn J&K's innings, adding 40 runs for the fourth wicket, to no avail. Full marks to Uttar Pradesh bowlers, who kept J&k batters under check, and never allowed the run rate to touch six runs per over. Archana Devi took 2/14, whereas Garima Yadav, Sonam Yadav, Shilpi Yadav and Anjali Singh shared four wickets between them. With their second consecutive win, Uttar Pradesh now have four points and stand at No 3 position behind Mumbai and Baroda, who have already occupied top two positions with four points each. Now, Uttar Pradesh take on Bihar in their third league match on Saturday. Young Shanthanu Singh's explosive century powered former champions Uttar Pradesh scored a comprehensive 84-run win against Maharashtra in a rain-hit Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy encounter, at the Usha Martin Ground in Ranchi on Thursday. Singh's courageous 42-ball 104 helped Uttar Pradesh post 206/6 after being sent to bat first, before his controlled spell with the ball dismantled the chase. In fact, Singh put on a breathtaking display of power-hitting that dominated the innings. He smashed 10 fours and seven sixes, racing to a century that lifted his team from an ordinary start to a commanding position. Fellow opener Yashu Pradhan gave strong support with a fluent 51 off 29 balls, as the duo put together a massive 148-run stand for the first wicket - the clear turning point of the match. Once Shanthanu was run out after hitting his maiden ton in the season, wickets fell at regular intervals. Among bowlers, Samarth Dornal (2/25) and Sahil Parakh (2/29) were the only ones to restrict the scoring rate; others were taken apart by Shanthanu and Yashu's relentless stroke play. Chasing 207 was always going to be an uphill task, and early wickets made things worse for Maharashtra. They never recovered from a top-order collapse, eventually folding for 122 in 17 overs. Skipper Sahil Parakh top-scored with a fighting 45 off 33 balls, trying to anchor the chase amid a steady fall of wickets. Shubham Kadam (23 off 11) provided some late fireworks, but by then, the result was beyond doubt. For Uttar Pradesh, Aayan Akram (2/22) and Kartikey Varshney (2/16) led from the front with tight lines. Shanthanu continued his golden day by taking 1/18 in four overs, giving nothing away early on. Aditya Kumar Singh (2/38) and Piyush Choudhary (1/17) joined the wicket column as the innings crumbled post the halfway mark....
