Notorious criminal injured in encounter, arrested
LUCKNOW, July 25 -- After a late-night encounter in Mahanagar area on Wednesday, Lucknow Police arrested a hardened criminal who regularly travelled from Farrukhabad to Lucknow twice a week for pickpocketing.
The accused, identified as Kuldeep, 24, was shot at in the leg during the chase. It occurred when police teams on alert following a recent pickpocketing incident intercepted two suspects on a motorcycle during a checking drive.
ADCP (central) Mamta Chaudhary said the suspects tried to flee and one of them opened fire. In retaliatory action, Kuldeep was shot at in one of his legs and was later arrested while his accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Kuldeep confessed that he travelled from Farrukhabad to Lucknow twice weekly, targeting busy areas like Bhoothnath market, Aminabad market, railway stations and bus terminals. He also confessed to his involvement in a theft committed just four days ago at Indira Nagar Bridge in Mahanagar area....
