Bahraich, Dec. 17 -- A notorious criminal carrying a long criminal history across multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh was arrested after a brief police encounter here on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Arjun Singh, who was attempting to flee to Nepal with a stolen motorcycle and illegal firearms, sustained a bullet injury in his left leg during retaliatory firing by the police. Additional superintendent of police (rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari told media persons on Tuesday that on December 15, Ramgaon police received specific input from a confidential informant about the movement of a wanted criminal planning to escape to Nepal. Acting swiftly, a police team led by Ramgaon SHO Gurusen Singh launched a vehicle-checking operation near the Chilhariya Bridge on Monday night. During the checking, the police spotted a man approaching on a motorcycle. When signaled to stop, the suspect panicked, attempted to turn back, and tried to flee. Finding himself surrounded, he opened fire on the police team and was shot in the left leg during retaliatory firing. The injured accused Arjun Singh, a resident of Haldi Rampur under Ubhav police station in Ballia district, currently lives in Shravasti district. From his possession, the police recovered a .32 bore pistol, two spent cartridges, three live .32 bore cartridges, and a KTM motorcycle reported stolen from Lucknow district. Based on the recovery, an FIR has been registered at the local police station under Sections 109 and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/25/27 of the Arms Act. The injured accused was admitted to the district hospital for treatment, and further legal proceedings are underway. ASP Tiwari further revealed that Arjun Singh is a notorious criminal with at least 17 criminal cases registered against him in various districts, including Lucknow, Balrampur, Gonda, Shravasti, and Bahraich....
