AGRA, Oct. 20 -- Search resumed on Sunday in the room popularly known as 'toshkhana', which was opened at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan after 54 years on Saturday under the supervision of a Supreme Court-appointed high powered committee, but no substantial material was found despite the committee reaching till 'tehkhana' (hidden basement). The room had remained locked since 1971. The decision to open the sealed room had been taken by the high-powered committee at its meeting in September. However the boxes recovered on Saturday were opened and four 'chhadi' (sticks), one believed to be of gold and three of silver, were found in them. The search operation for Sunday ended with doors getting sealed again, Dinesh Goswami, one of the committee members accompanying the team, said. On Saturday, a 'tijori' (safe), two boxes, a 'chatra' (cover), wooden structures and utensils were found in the room, said Goswamis, who were members of the team that went inside. "These four sticks include one four feet long in yellow colour believed to be of gold with 'gulal' (used in Holi festival) wrapped beside three smaller silver shafts. It appears that these shafts might had been used during Holi festival seemingly placed in hands of Thakur Ji," said Goswami who clarified that these shafts are to be tested to ascertain weight and value. Besides this, half a dozen precious stones were also recovered as search operation prior to Diwali festival got over on Sunday. Utensils in large number were found lying here and there as the team reached inner part of the locked room and tehkhana (hidden basement). The search operation went on peacefully without any protest on Sunday and got over by afternoon and doors were sealed. On Saturday, members of the Goswami community, who manage daily rituals at the temple as 'sevayats' (servitors), had opposed the exercise. They alleged that misinformation was being spread about 'khazana' (treasure). The committee, headed by Justice (retired) Ashok Kumar of the Allahabad high court, on September 12 had directed the opening of the long-sealed room in the basement of the temple in Vrindavan. The 'toshkhana' was last opened 54 years ago and the doors in 1971 were closed since then, said Acharya Prahlad Vallabh Goswami, a sevayat or servitor. "The temple dates back to 1864 when 'Thakur Ji' was brought to the present location in Vrindavan. This room, often referred to as 'toshkhana', is beneath the seat of Bihariji (the deity), which houses jewellery and documents related to immovable assets of the temple, but no exact details are available of what all is there," Acharya Prahlad Vallabh Goswami had told HT earlier....
