Noida's Sonali wins bronze in ranking b'minton
LUCKNOW, July 17 -- Uttar Pradesh's shuttler Sonali Singh continued her impressive run on the national circuit, winning a bronze medal in the women's doubles event at the All India Senior Ranking Tournament at Bhubaneshwar.
Noida's Sonali while pairing with Amrutha P, battled her way into the semi-finals before falling to the experienced pair of Shreya Balaji and Deepta S in a three-game thriller 17-21, 21-13, 15-21.
The tournament brought together the best of India's senior badminton talent, and Sonali's performance is a significant milestone for both her career and the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking after her podium finish, Sonali Singh expressed both pride and motivation to keep pushing forward. "It was a hard-fought match and we gave it everything we had. I'm proud of how far we've come as a team. This bronze means a lot because it reflects the hard work behind the scenes. We're going to keep building on this momentum."
With this latest result, Sonali Singh continues to climb the national rankings and inspire the next generation of players from Uttar Pradesh. Her bronze at the Bhubaneshwar Senior Ranking Tournament adds to a growing list of achievements. Currently she is ranked 5th in India as per BAI rankings.
Opener Virat Sahani hammered an unbeaten 70-ball 115 with the help of 21 boundaries as CAl Green notched up a six-wicket win over CAL Violet to make it to the semi-finals of the Neeru Kapoor Memorial Under-12 Cricket Tournament, at the SAR Ground here on Wednesday.
With Virat's century, CAl Green romped home in 17.4 overs while chasing 160 in 20 overs. Dhruv Yadav took 2/18 for CAL Violet. Earlier, Fzeel Khan too scored 100 in 53 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and a six to help CAL Violet scored 159/6 while batting first after winning the toss. Vansh bagged 2/17 for the winners.
Mehdi scored a hat-trick to help Satsun Club rout Blue Club by 7-0 in a match of the District Football League 2025, at the Chowk Stadium here on Wednesday. Mehdi scored in 4th, 44th and 65th minutes, whereas Raunak and Nafees netted a brace each. The second of the day between Lifa Club and Mamta Club ended in a 2-2 draw. Ashu Janmejaya netted for Mamta Club, whereas Tushar and Bajrangi scored for Lifa Club.
Lucknow's Shivani Bharti and Soumya Srivastava have been selected for the training camp of the Indian Junior Women's Handball Team. The training camp for the probables of the Indian team begins on Thursday at the Sports Authority of India in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in which a total of 28 players from all over the country have been included. The team selected through this camp will represent India in the 18th Asian Junior Women's Handball Championship to be held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from August 20 to 29. Both Shivani and Soumya are currently practicing regularly under the supervision of coach Tauheed at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here in Lucknow....
