No major migration into India in 10,000 years: Expert at BHU symposium
Varanasi, March 24 -- There has been no evidence of large-scale human migration or external influx into India over the past 10,000 years, from the Holocene epoch to the present, said Prof SR Walimbe, former head of the department of anthropology at Savitribai Phule Pune University on Monday while attending a national symposium on Paleogenomics and Paleoarchaeology at BHU. The two-day symposium aims to bring together key research areas such as ancient DNA, paleoanthropology, gut microbiome studies and population genomics on a single platform.
Delivering a keynote lecture at the symposium, Prof SR Walimbe presented findings that offer a fresh perspective on India's ancient demographic history.
While additional director general of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Dr Sanjay Manjul affirmed that the ASI would extend full cooperation to ongoing research initiatives in paleogenomics and paleoarchaeology at BHU....
