AGRA, Dec. 27 -- No heavy vehicles will be allowed to enter Vrindavan town in Mathura district in view of the heavy influx of devotees expected during the weekend and New Year rush. Light vehicles will also have restricted entry, with most vehicles required to be parked at designated parking zones at the entry points of Vrindavan, where arrangements have been made for parking around 7,000 vehicles, according to Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar, who outlined traffic and crowd management plan. He said lakhs of devotees are expected to visit the twin religious cities of Mathura and Vrindavan over the coming days. "We are expecting lakhs of devotees, especially in Vrindavan, where no heavy vehicle will be permitted to enter," the SSP said. The Mathura Nagar Nigam has prepared a traffic plan to regulate the movement of e-rickshaws on roads leading to major shrines, including temples and ashrams, he added. Kumar said the number of devotees was expected to increase manifold over the weekend and on December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026. "Additional police force will be deployed, along with supervision by gazetted officers and magistrates. Hospitals have also been asked to remain on alert, and all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure that devotees do not face any inconvenience during darshan," Kumar said. The influx of devotees has already increased, particularly at the Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, amid year-end festivities and the winter vacation period.
