No date for monsoon arrival yet, but U.P. to receive above average rainfall: Met dept
Lucknow, May 28 -- Uttar Pradesh can expect to receive above normal rainfall this monsoon. There is, however, no prediction on its actual date of arrival in the state, a Met official said here on Tuesday.
According to the forecast received from various sources coupled with global climate models including IMD's Monsoon Mission Climate Forecast System model, "Eastern UP is likely to receive 110% of the long-term average (799 mm) and western UP is likely to receive 112% of the long-term average (672 mm) along with the average regional rainfall being 10-12% above normal.
"We will not be able to predict the monsoon arrival date in UP as of now. Unless the southwest monsoon covers the entire north east, it is not clear when the monsoon will arrive here," said Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at Lucknow Met office....
