Patna, July 24 -- The Bihar assembly on Wednesday witnessed confrontation between members of the opposition Grand Alliance and the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with chief minister Nitish Kumar reminding leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav of the "jungle raj" during the RJD's rule over the latter's critical remarks that the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being done in a "non-transparent" manner. In his address, as the RJD leader took a swipe at the ECI over the poll roll revision exercise, asking whether "fake voters" elected PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) chief intervened asking Yadav to refrain from making unwarranted statements. "You should remember what all happened during his parents' rule in Bihar (referring to the RJD rule under Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi from 1990 to 2005). You were a child. You do not know how people used to never venture out after sunset in Patna during the rule of your parents. We have worked for all sections and ushered development in the state," Kumar said, asking Yadav not to create fuss about SIR. Kumar said though he had spent a lot of time with the NDA, he was briefly with the RJD as well. "When I noticed things were not going on properly, I switched back to the NDA," the longest-serving CM said. In his statement, Yadav questioned the timing of SIR, saying the 2003 exercise had taken over a year and the present one was happening just months before the assembly polls, scheduled for October-November this year. "The SIR is not being done transparently and the poor are facing immense difficulty in procuring documents," he alleged. Claiming that only 2-3% of voters in the state may have the documents that ECI is asking them to produce, Yadav said people have got just 25 days to get these documents which is challenging for economically disadvantaged citizens. "What is this fear of fake voters? Does the EC mean to say fake voters have made Narendra Modi the PM and Nitish Kumar the CM. The EC has also not spoken of any foreign nationals in its affidavit before the Supreme Court," he added....
