Nine held after police encounter in Jaunpur
VARANASI, Nov. 4 -- Nine criminals were arrested after an encounter with police from Mungra Badshahpur and the SWAT team at Kachidih turn, near Nibhapur railway crossing, in the Mungra Badshahpur area of Jaunpur district early Monday, police said. Two of the accused suffered bullet injuries. Police recovered two pistols, four cartridges, six kilograms of stolen silver and jewellery, and Rs.1.04 lakh in cash from them. Eight accused Ladu, Puran, Babu Singh, Bijendra alias Vijendra alias Mangal, Suresh Singh, Moti alias Kireki, Dharampal alias Phool Singh, Bhola (all from Shahjahanpur), and Ajit from Lakhimpur Kheri stole from a jewellery shop in Mungra Badshahpur on October 21. They stayed in major cities of UP and Bihar to plan thefts, broke locks with iron rods, and stole jewellery and cash. They attempted thefts in Sarnath (October 29) and Alinagar, Chandauli (October 27), sold stolen goods to Prashant Panwar in Varanasi, and confessed to a 2018 Sarnath theft.
