LUCKNOW, Dec. 22 -- Lucknow police have registered an FIR against nine people for allegedly beating a stray dog to death in the Thakurganj police station area, following a complaint by an animal welfare trust. Thakurganj station house officer (SHO) Omveer Singh Chauhan said an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and that investigation has been initiated. According to the complain, the incident occurred near the Badi Kala locality on December 19, where several people allegedly attacked the dog with sticks, bricks and rods, resulting in its death. The trust said it approached the police after receiving information and eyewitness accounts related to the incident.
