Jodhpur, June 1 -- The National Green Tribunal of central zone bench, Bhopal, has sought report on illegal construction, pollution near Ana Sagar lake in Ajmer. While hearing an application filed by a person named Babulal Sahoo, the division bench of justice Sheo Kumar Singh and expert member Afroz Ahmad on Friday directed the formation of a joint committee comprising representatives from the Ajmer district magistrate and the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) to conduct a site inspection and submit a factual and action taken report within six weeks. The applicant has alleged that illegal construction of five hotels and banquet halls without obtaining the required environmental clearances, building approvals, or consents under pollution control laws. It further claimed that the construction has been carried out on the Ana Sagar Baradari, a protected heritage site and eco-sensitive zone, and that the respondent has been illegally extracting groundwater and discharging wastewater into the lake, causing grave environmental harm. Taking the allegations seriously, the tribunal observed, "A substantial issue of the environment has been raised."
