NGT orders closure of illegal brick kilns in four districts
Lucknow, July 25 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued orders for closure of several brick kilns operating in Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal and Amroha without valid licence.
The Tribunal also has directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to carry out on spot inspection after the monsoon season to make sure all illegal brick kilns are closed. Brick kilns stop operating during monsoon and resume production from Dussehra. A divison bench of the NGT comprising chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel passed the order on July 11. The UPPCB had filed a status report on brick kilns before the NGT on July 9 informing about action taken against them in Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal and Amroha. The UPPCB had also imposed a fine on brick kilns operating illegally. But the brick kilns owners got a stay from the Allahabad high court.
The State Pollution Control Board issued closure orders of brick kilns under Section 33A of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Section 31A of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. htc...
