Next 25 years will help shape new India: Nadda
Dehradun, Feb. 15 -- Union health and family welfare, and chemicals and fertilisers minister JP Nadda on Saturday said that the young people of the country would play a decisive and active role in shaping the next 25 years of 'Amrit Kaal'.
Addressing the eight convocation ceremony at Swami Rama Himalayan University at Jolly Grant in Dehradun, Nadda congratulated the outgoing batch and urged them to use their education for the purposes of nation building .
"The next 25 years of Amritkaal will be decisive for creating a developed India. Young people will not only be witnesses but active participants in this," he said.
Nadda lauded the leadership of the university president, Dr Vijay Dhasmana, and said the university was setting up benchmarks in social service, medicine and education. "A degree carries with it accountability towards human development and society," he said.
Highlighting the Centre's initiatives, Nadda spoke about India's economic stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and achievements in the health sector, including the Ayushman Bharat scheme, improvements in maternal and infant mortality rates, progress in eliminating tuberculosis, malaria and diarrhoeal diseases, and strides in early cancer detection.
Addressing the gathering, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who was the guest of honour at the event, congratulated the outgoing batch and described young people as Uttarakhand's greatest strength.
Dhami said the state was receiving significant support from the Centre, particularly in implementing Ayushman Bharat, telemedicine initiatives and expanding healthcare services in hilly regions, and that development works in Uttarakhand were being carried out in line with the Prime Minister's vision for the state's third decade, citing improvements in water and forest management, road and electricity connectivity, internet access in remote areas, tourism growth, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) rankings, fisheries and the rural economy.
State education and health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said Uttarakhand was performing strongly in the health sector in terms of human resources and infrastructure, and credited the Centre for its support in strengthening healthcare facilities. He also praised the university's contribution to the state's health services.
Dr Vijay Dhasmana described education as a medium for self-realisation, empowerment and transformation, adding that the institution's primary focus was to deliver quality healthcare grounded in ethics and service.
During the ceremony, degrees were conferred on 1,001 students from the faculties of Medicine, Allied Health Sciences, Nursing, Management, Engineering, Yoga Sciences and Biosciences.
The university also launched its Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). Owing to its A+ grade from NAAC, courses offered under the centre will be entitled to UGC recognition, enabling access to quality online education....
