Meerut, July 20 -- A recently posted sub-inspector (S-I) in Meerut has been suspended on corruption charges just months after he completed his training. The officer, Abhishek Jaiswal, allegedly demanded money from the family of a man detained by police. The case pertains to the Bijli Bamba outpost under the Lohia Nagar police station, where Jaiswal was posted as an S-I. Two months ago, Jaiswal took a youth into custody. When the family of the detained individual approached him, Jaiswal allegedly demanded a bribe and even roped in his brother-in-law to mediate the deal. Unaware that the conversation was being recorded, the brother-in-law spoke to one of the youth's relatives over the phone, during which the bribe demand was clearly articulated. The relative later decided to escalate the matter by submitting the audio clip to SSP Vipin Tada. Taking swift action, the SSP assigned the inquiry to circle officer (CO) Kotwali Ashutosh Kumar. The preliminary investigation confirmed the bribery allegations. Based on the findings, SI Jaiswal was suspended late Friday night. Additionally, a departmental inquiry has been launched to investigate the full extent of his misconduct. Jaiswal belongs to the 2023 batch of sub-inspectors and had only recently completed his formal police training. His first posting was at Lohia Nagar police station, followed by his assignment to the Bijli Bamba outpost. Despite having no official role as an investigating officer in the case, Jaiswal allegedly took it upon himself to interfere. On Friday, Lohia Nagar police announced the resolution of two theft cases, releasing a press note that included the SI's name. Just hours later, the officer was suspended. "We received an audio recording related to the sub-inspector, and after a thorough inquiry, the allegations were found to be true. He has been suspended, and a departmental investigation is also underway," the SSP said....
