Guwahati, Aug. 19 -- A newborn girl died and two other babies suffered injuries on Monday after allegedly falling from the bed in which they were kept at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of government-run Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). Officials confirmed the incident, terming it an accident, and ordered an in-house inquiry. "A baby girl was born to my wife on August 15 through cesarean section...When I came to the hospital this morning, I came to know that some babies had fallen from the NICU bed and my child was hanging by an attached wire...Since my child was hanging by the wire there was no oxygen supply and she had turned black," he added. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the incident as unfortunate and ordered a thorough probe and constituted a three-member committee to conduct an inquiry. Meanwhile, the father of the deceased girl, has filed a police complaint at Bhangagarh police station seeking a probe into the incident....
