Deputy commissioner of police (west zone) Vishwajeet Srivastava ordered immediate line attachment of the in-charges of Satkhanda, Rumi Gate and Hussainabad police outposts. Similar action has also been taken against the outpost in-charges of River Bank Colony and Old High Court area. Departmental proceedings have also been ordered against both officers. All these cops are of sub-inspector rank. According to senior officials, the action was taken after it emerged that no effective steps were taken against encroachers despite repeated complaints and warnings. "The failure to remove illegal roadside encroachments allegedly resulted in prolonged and intense traffic snarls, particularly in Old Lucknow areas, causing major inconvenience to commuters and tourists during the New Year rush," said the DCP west.
