Haldwani, Dec. 30 -- The administration of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) has decided to open a new safari area in the park, with an aim to ease pressure on existing tourist zones. Jungle safaris in the new area, Phulai Chaur, are expected to begin soon, once a temporary bridge over the Ramganga river is completed, forest officials said. CTR director Saket Badola said that the Dhikala zone of Corbett National Park is the most popular among tourists and Phulai Chaur falls within this zone. "Phulai Chaur provides an extremely suitable natural habitat for wildlife. However, during the monsoon season, rising water levels in the Ramganga river make access to this area difficult. Once the water recedes, the CTR administration initiates construction of a temporary bridge to facilitate movement," he said. Badola added that a recent survey of the river's water level and topography revealed that the Ramganga has changed its course to some extent this year and its width has increased. "As a result, the temporary bridge being constructed this time will be almost twice as long as earlier. The construction work has already begun and is targeted to be completed within the next 10 days," he said. Once the bridge is ready, tourists visiting the Dhikala zone will be able to enjoy jungle safaris in the Phulai Chaur area. "This will not only offer visitors new and exciting safari routes but also provide opportunities to observe wildlife up close in their natural habitat," Badola said....
