New Metro line to push ridership to 2.5 lakh per day
Lucknow, Sept. 15 -- The upcoming East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro will make travel easy to Medical College, Chowk, Kaiserbagh, Thakurganj, Aminabad, Naka, Balaganj, and Vasant Kunj, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) said, adding the link was expected to bring major relief to patients, healthcare workers and students.
With a projected increase in ridership from 90,000 to 2.5 lakh passengers daily, the corridor is poised to become the backbone of urban commuting in Lucknow, UPRMC claimed. Also, the corridor supports a greener city, with reduced fuel consumption and emissions.
Journeys that currently take up to two hours-such as the stretch from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj- during busy hours will take just 25 minutes on the metro, it said.
For those heading to KGMU, one of the city's busiest medical centres, the impact will be even more profound. The current one-hour crawl through traffic from Charbagh will be cut down to just 16 minutes, it claimed.
The corridor's route strategically cuts through high-density commercial and residential zones-Aminabad, Chowk, and major transit points. By tapping into these high-demand areas, the metro system is expected to become the preferred mode of transport for shoppers, office-goers, students, and daily wage workers....
