New Delhi, March 29 -- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education institutions (HEIs) to use National Eligibility Test (NET) scores for admissions to PhD programmes, in place of scores obtained in separate entrance exams conducted by them, from upcoming academic session 2024-25.The decision by the higher education regulator was taken during its 578th meeting on March 13, on the basis of recommendations by an expert committee constituted by it to review the provisions of NET to ensure one national entrance exam for PhD admissions as envisioned by the NEP 2020.The UGC conducts NET through the National Testing Agency twice a year, in June and December, to award Junior Research Fellowship and as eligibility for appointment as assistant professor for those with a Master's degree. htc...
