LUCKNOW, Dec. 1 -- Days after an FIR was lodged over an alleged house theft at a Sarojininagar residence, more than 70 residents of Shanti Nagar staged a protest at the local police station on Sunday, accusing police of hasty action and wrongful implication of neighbours. The FIR, filed on November 27 by complainant Kiran Tripathi, names 11 people - including neighbours and acquaintances - on charges of housebreaking and theft under sections 351(3), 305(a) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Tripathi told police she returned from a trip to find her house ransacked and valuables missing, including jewellery, cash, documents and two licensed firearms. On Sunday, members of the Shanti Nagar Vikas Samiti submitted a written objection at the police station. Committee president Udayveer Singh alleged that police should have conducted a preliminary verification before naming multiple residents in the case. Residents claimed that 11 respected people had been falsely accused, harming their social reputation. They further alleged that local disputes involving the complainant's family had been recurring and that neighbours were frequently dragged into police complaints. Protesters demanded that senior police officials review the FIR and re-examine the evidence. A senior officer said the investigation would proceed strictly on the basis of evidence, and statements of all parties would be recorded. ACP Krishna Nagar Rajneesh Verma said, "We have called all the residents to the police station on Monday to hear their concerns, and the matter will be investigated with transparency and fairness."...
