VARANASI, Oct. 30 -- At least 20 tourists were rescued after their boat went out of control in the strong currents of the River Ganga near Lalita Ghat on Wednesday.
The tourists, who had come to Varanasi from different parts of the country, panicked as the boatmen reportedly lost control due to the swift flow.
According to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deputy commandant Ram Bhuvan Singh Yadav, a patrolling team of the NDRF acted promptly after spotting the stranded boat.
The personnel quickly transferred all 20 tourists to another vessel and brought them safely to Lalita Ghat. Yadav said NDRF rescue personnel are deployed round the clock at major ghats in Varanasi to ensure the safety of visitors.
"Our teams remain alert and respond immediately in any emergency," he added.
People present at Lalita Ghat and nearby areas appreciated the NDRF team for their swift and effective rescue operation....
