Lucknow, May 2 -- Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, director general of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), concluded his two- day official visit to the Lucknow NCC directorate on Thursday with a felicitation ceremony held at the Surya Auditorium. The visit, which included operational reviews and student interactions, was also aimed at advancing the NCC's expansion plans to exceed a cadet strength of two lakh over the next two years. Currently, the Uttar Pradesh NCC directorate already the largest in the country has 1.64 lakh cadets enrolled across 110 battalions and 11 NCC groups spanning all districts of the state. With an increase of 28,703 cadets planned, the directorate is poised to cross the two-lakh mark by 2027. During the ceremony, Lt Gen Singh presented the DG's commendation card to Major Divya Sharma, associate officer of the 19 UP Girls Battalion NCC, Lucknow, and Lieutenant Pooran Singh, associate NCC Officer of the 37 UP Battalion NCC, Ghaziabad, in recognition of their exemplary service. The DG also commended the Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate for its dynamic role in key initiatives, including the successful conduct of a special sailing expedition from Kanpur to Buxar and significant logistical support extended to the civil administration during the Mahakumbh at Prayagraj. As part of the felicitation event, cadets and instructors were recognised for their outstanding performance in the academic year 2024-25.
