NC fields Mehmood for Budgam bye-election
Srinagar, Oct. 20 -- The National Conference on Sunday announced Agha Syed Mehmood as the party's candidate for the November 11 bypoll for the Budgam assembly constituency in Jammu & Kashmir.
Mehmood, a prominent Shia leader, will contest the elections from Budgam, which fell vacant after chief minister Omar Abdullah resigned from the constituency and retained the Ganderbal seat after successfully contesting in both seats during the 2024 assembly elections.
"On the directions of the party leadership, JKNC has announced Agha Syed Mehmood as the party's candidate for the upcoming Budgam Assembly election," the party said in a statement. A former minister, Mehmood has served as an MLA twice and was previously an MLC as well.
Mehmood will face BJP's Syed Mohsin and PDP's Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi, whose candidature was also announced by the party on Sunday. "PDP's Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi sb will file his nomination papers for the Budgam Assembly by-election tomorrow at 12 PM," the party said on X....
