Nausena Sangrahalaya gets Rs 5-crore boost
Lucknow, July 25 -- The second phase of the Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya project in Lucknow has received a funding of Rs 5 crore from the department of tourism and culture. This naval heritage museum is being built to honour India's maritime history and to spark interest among the youth.
Officials said phase 2 involves major work, including content development, structural setup, and installation of artefacts. The museum will showcase key naval items such as the decommissioned INS Gomti, missiles, torpedoes, and other historical equipment.
More than just a museum, the project is expected to become a major learning centre. It will help young people understand India's naval strength and history. Schools and colleges may include visits as part of their curriculum. The centre is also likely to create jobs and boost cultural tourism in Lucknow.
The project, which started in October 2023, is located on an 8-acre site near Ekana Stadium. It is being jointly developed by the Uttar Pradesh tourism department and the Indian Navy. The museum will offer interactive exhibits, digital storytelling, and detailed displays on ancient seafaring, naval battles, and modern naval technology.
The centre will also feature a digital interpretation zone, student-friendly content, and workshops.
On Thursday, minister of tourism and culture Jaiveer Singh, advisor to the chief minister Avnish Kumar Awasthi, principal secretary for tourism and culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram, and UPSTDC MD Esha Priya visited the site to review progress.
