LUCKNOW, Feb. 1 -- To mark World Wetlands Day on February 2, a nature and bird festival will be held at Mahavir Swami Sanctuary in Lalitpur forest, environment and climate change minister Arun Saxena said on Saturday. The minister said Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to form village-level wetland committees. "These committees have been created to involve local people in wetland conservation and protection efforts," Arun Saxena added. He was speaking at a press conference in the state capital. Principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) Anuradha Vemuri, additional PCCFs Dipak Kumar, Ram Kumar and A P Sinha, and chief conservator of forests, Bareilly zone, P P Singh were also present on the occasion.
