PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 2 -- Naresh Pal Singh, a 1988-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers, assumed charge as the new general manager of North Central Railway on September 1, 2025. The post fell vacant after the retirement of former general manager Upendra Chandra Joshi. Singh will hold this as an additional charge, alongside his current role as general manager of Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW). Since assuming charge as the BLW GM in November 2024, Singh has steered the production unit to numerous achievements in locomotive production. Notably, under his leadership, BLW produced an aerodynamic WAP-7 locomotive, showcasing a new benchmark in technical excellence. The installation of solar panels on railway tracks was another notable step towards promoting green energy. Under Singh's guidance, BLW also launched several initiatives in social responsibility and environmental protection. In 2024-25, the unit set a new record by producing 477 locomotives. He obtained his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from IIT Roorkee in 1987.
