PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 5 -- The Allahabad high court has rejected the bail application of former head priest of Prayagraj's Bade Hanuman Ji temple, Adya Prasad Tiwari, in connection with the suicide case of Narendra Giri, the then Akhara Parishad president. Tiwari has been in jail since September 22, 2021, after being booked under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. His earlier bail plea was rejected by the sessions court in January 2022. The case, initially investigated by the local police, was later handed over to the CBI. While rejecting the plea, justice Ashutosh Srivastava on October 14 directed Undertrial Review Committee to examine Tiwari's case under Section 479 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which limits the maximum detention period for undertrials. The court asked the committee to submit its report within two months. Tiwari's counsel argued that he had already undergone detention exceeding one-third of the maximum punishment for the offence and should be released on bond, but the prosecution opposed the plea, alleging he had attempted to delay trial proceedings. The body of Narendra Giri was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in Shri Math Baghambari Gaddi under the limits of Georgetown police station in Prayagraj on September 20, 2021. htc...
