Nainital court jails woman, aide for life for killing ex-boyfriend
Haldwani, Dec. 23 -- A Nainital district court on Monday sentenced a woman and a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a man in Bhimtal area of Nainital district, a crime that stemmed from a love affair. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 each on both convicts. Additionally, the male accused was awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.10,000 under the Arms Act for the illegal possession and use of a firearm.
District prosecution officer (crime) Sushil Sharma said the incident took place on January 2, 2020, around 2.30pm. According to the prosecution, Amreen Jahan, a resident of Indranagar, Haldwani, lured her former lover Nazim Ali on the pretext of visiting Bhimtal. Her accomplice Radheshyam Shukla followed them on a motorcycle.
When they reached a hairpin bend near the Chanda Devi temple, the vehicle was stopped and Radheshyam allegedly shot Nazim at close range with a .315 bore pistol, Sharma said. After opening fire, the accused fled the spot.
Following the shooting, Amreen allegedly called Nazim's brother Wajid Ali from Nazim's mobile phone and gave misleading information. Nazim, who was critically injured, was rushed to hospital in a Bolero vehicle, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said Amreen's conduct at the hospital raised suspicion, and she attempted to flee, but was stopped by the police.
Subsequently, Radheshyam Shukla was arrested, and the weapon used in the crime, cartridges, live ammunition, a mobile phone and blood-stained clothes were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, police found that Amreen and Nazim were previously in a romantic relationship. Amreen was allegedly enraged after Nazim married another woman despite having promised to marry her. Acting out of anger and a desire for revenge, she conspired with Radheshyam to eliminate Nazim, the prosecution said.
While pronouncing the sentence, the court observed that the murder was pre-planned and executed in a brutal manner, terming it a direct assault on humanity and social values....
