Barmer, Aug. 19 -- Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal led a midnight siege of the Balotra Collectorate on Sunday, demanding urgent action against the inflow of polluted water from Jodhpur's textile units into villages of Barmer and Jodhpur districts. Earlier in the evening, a "Jojari Bachao Maharally" was organised in Doli village, where thousands of villagers participated. After the rally, Beniwal left for Balotra around 1.30 am, in a palanquin with supporters, reaching the Collectorate at 2 am Protesters raised slogans against the administration, alleging neglect of the long-standing water crisis. On receiving information, collector Sushil Kumar Yadav and SP Ramesh Kumar reached the spot and held talks with Beniwal's delegation, including Thansingh Doli. The discussion lasted about half an hour, during which a memorandum was submitted to the chief minister. The administration assured that the inflow of contaminated water would be stopped immediately, new channels would be closed, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared for a permanent disposal mechanism. Following this assurance, Beniwal ended his indefinite sit-in at around 4 a.m. For years, wastewater from Jodhpur's textile industries has been discharged into the Jojari river, affecting nearly 60-70 villages including Doli, Araba, and Kalyanpur across Pachpadra, Luni, Jodhpur, and Balotra constituencies. Farmers have said agricultural land has been damaged, drinking water contaminated, and diseases have spread due to mosquito breeding, but no lasting solution has been implemented. After calling off the protest, Beniwal addressed his supporters, accusing both ruling and opposition parties of inaction. "If Barmer-Balotra leaders had any strength, I would not need to siege the Collectorate at 2 a.m. The opposition is asleep. RLP is fighting for the people, while Congress and BJP only deliver speeches," said Beniwal. He further added, "We want the return of not only Jojari but all rivers. From Barmer to the ravines of Chambal, from Ganganagar to Dungarpur, I will continue this fight for every caste and class. Barmer-Balotra is the stronghold of RLP, and I will not let people here suffer."...
