Mystery surrounds female patient's death in Banthra
LUCKNOW, April 14 -- A 32-year-old female patient died after falling from the fourth floor of a private hospital in Lucknow's Banthra area in the early hours of Monday, triggering protests by her family, who alleged foul play. The hospital administration, however, claimed it was a case of suicide.
The incident occurred at a private hospital in Junabganj under Banthra police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Sita Dixit, a resident of Kishunpur Kaudiya. Her husband, Abhay Dixit, is a contractual bus driver with the state transport department.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) South Amit Kumar Anand said that the police received information around 9:30 am about the death of a woman who had fallen from the hospital's fourth floor, where she was admitted a day earlier.
"The family has alleged foul play by the hospital, and a complaint is being taken to register an FIR in the case," the DCP added.
According to police, Sita had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for mental health issues and was readmitted on Sunday after her condition worsened. Family members said Sita had gone to the hospital on her own on Sunday afternoon, after which her husband joined her. She was admitted to the general ward on the fourth floor, where Abhay stayed overnight.
Abhay told police that he briefly dozed off around 3 am, during which Sita reportedly left the ward. At around 6 am, she was found unconscious on the ground outside the building. She was rushed to the ICU, where doctors declared her dead.
The family created a ruckus at the hospital, alleging that Sita was murdered. They questioned the hospital's claim of suicide, noting that CCTV footage showed her leaving the ward around 4 am and her slippers falling, but did not clearly capture the fall. They also raised doubts over the absence of visible blood at the spot.
Abhay further alleged negligence, claiming that the hospital staff did not alert him during the night. "Earlier, guards would wake me up to monitor the patient. This time, no one informed me," he said.
The deceased's brother, Dheeraj Tiwari, filed a complaint seeking the registration of an FIR for murder against the hospital administration, including its chairman and principal, alleging a conspiracy. He claimed that he had spoken to his sister the previous night and that she was recovering.
Police officials said a complaint has been received and appropriate action will be taken after an investigation. Banthra station house officer (SHO) Rana Rajesh Singh said the woman had a history of mental health issues and had been undergoing treatment. htc...
