Music operator dies; FIR lodged against ex-block pramukh's son
GORAKHPUR, Feb. 16 -- Celebratory firing claimed the life of a sound system operator during a wedding procession in Pandeypur village here on Saturday night.
The man who fired the fatal shot was allegedly the son of a former block pramukh of Gagha block. The accused fled the spot after the incident.
The incident triggered panic in the village, forcing many members of the wedding party to return home before the Dwar Puja ceremony.
SP (South) Dinesh Puri said that an FIR has been registered against the accused, Adarsh Gupta. The bleeding piped music operator, identified as Rajeev, 20, was rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Officials said as the wedding procession approached the venue, the accused allegedly fired shots in the air. One of the bullets reportedly struck the music operator.
Sources said the wedding party had arrived from Noida. The groom's aunt had served as the block pramukh of Gagha from 2015 to 2020. After her death, the firearm licence was transferred to her son, Adarsh, who allegedly used the weapon during the celebratory firing.
Police officials said, "Preliminary findings suggest that the death was caused during celebratory firing. Two police teams have been deployed to conduct raids for the arrest of the accused." htc...
