LUCKNOW, Jan. 25 -- A 59-year-old convict serving life term in a 2016 murder case died allegedly under suspicious circumstances, triggering allegations of murder by his family and demand for a high-level probe. The incident came to light on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Ramkishore Singh of Indara village under Mahigawan police station, had been lodged in Lucknow district jail since October 1, 2024. Jail authorities claimed Ramkishore went to the toilet on Friday, but was later found lying unconscious. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Balrampur Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Jailor, Lucknow district jail, Ritwik Priyadarshi said the post-mortem examination could not ascertain the exact cause of Ramkishore's death, adding that the doctors who conducted the autopsy said the inmate possibly had a heart attack. Meanwhile, his younger brother alleged that it was a "cold-blooded murder". He claimed that when the family was finally allowed to see the body, visible injury marks were noticed on Ramkishore's forehead, along with traces of bleeding. The family alleged that jail authorities initially denied them access to the body and only showed CCTV footage from the jail hospital, not from the actual site where Ramkishore was found unconscious. "Why is the video of the toilet area being hidden?", the family alleged. The family demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and appealed to chief minister Yogi Adityanath for justice and financial assistance....
