Varanasi/Prayagraj, June 25 -- A man wanted for murder and attempt to murder in Varanasi in 1997 was arrested from Valsad, Gujarat, on Sunday-28 years, two months, and five days after the crime. Identified as Kallu Singh, 58, he carried a reward of Rs.50,000 on him. Kallu, along with associate Balender Singh, had shot Vidhanchand Tiwari, an administrative officer at a private hospital, mistaking him for a doctor. Two others were injured in the firing. Later, they also shot a cyclist, Mayaram Yadav, over a personal rivalry. While Balender was killed in a police encounter in 2002, Kallu fled and worked as a guard under a false name. Acting on Gujarat police input, Lanka SHO Shivakant Mishra and team tracked him down. During interrogation, Kallu admitted to the crime. His wife, when contacted, refused to meet him, saying he should face punishment for his actions. A smuggler was caught transporting 100 kilograms of illegal ganja (cannabis) from Odisha in a truck. The arrest was made around 1 am on Monday near the Mauaima town flyove. The accused has been identified as Pursant from Odisha's Angul . Addressing the media persons on Tuesday, DCP (trans-Ganga), Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said a joint team carried out the successful operation that led to the arrest. Upon inspecting the truck, police found four large sacks containing 100 kg of ganja, cleverly concealed between coils of iron wire. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the contraband was loaded in Angul and was to be delivered to a location sent via WhatsApp call from an unknown mobile number....
