LUCKNOW, June 17 -- Piles of garbage and construction debris lying inside the historical Ghantaghar Park in Aminabad triggered immediate action from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) after UP finance minister and Lucknow district in-charge Suresh Khanna expressed strong displeasure over its condition during an inspection carried out on Saturday. Responding to the minister's instructions, LMC officials began a large-scale cleanliness and beautification drive at the park on Monday. Additional municipal commissioner Lalit Kumar personally inspected the site and monitored the action being taken on Monday. LMC has started the process of raising the boundary wall of the park to prevent trespassing and keep out stray animals and miscreants. To ensure better security and discipline, large iron gates are being installed at both main entrances of the park. LMC also plans to deploy guards at the gates, LMC press release stated on Monday. Along with cleaning, the civic body is also preparing a beautification plan for the park. "Plantation will be done to promote greenery and improve the park's environment. The lighting system will be upgraded and proper seating arrangements will also be made," said the additional municipal commissioner. Local corporator Shafiqur Rahman, executive engineer (Zone-1) Kishori Lal, officials present committed to revamping the park as early as possible and ensuring regular maintenance. The move comes as part of the LMC's larger initiative to clean and beautify public spaces across the city. Ghantaghar Park, located in the heart of the Aminabad market area, draws heavy footfall and has been in need of attention for long.
