LUCKNOW, May 4 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has launched a crackdown, directing immediate action to safeguard government land and property on Saturday. During a review meeting of the property department held on Saturday, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar instructed officials to remove illegal occupations without delay and prevent any fresh encroachments. He also ordered the department to identify and act against land mafia involved in unauthorised plotting and land grabs. The commissioner emphasised that strict legal action must be taken against those responsible, and such activities must be curbed at the initial level to prevent larger-scale violations. Additional municipal commissioner Pankaj Kumar said that the department has already carried out 188 anti-encroachment drives this year. These efforts have resulted in the reclamation of 121.306 hectares of government land. Officials have also filed 27 FIRs against accused encroachers and illegal developers. To prevent future violations, Kumar directed officials to update and maintain accurate property registers for all municipal assets.
