LUCKNOW, Oct. 7 -- Police on Monday registered a first information report (FIR) against Sumaiya Rana, daughter of noted Urdu poet the late Munawwar Rana, at Qaiserbagh police station in Lucknow for allegedly posting a provocative message on social media related to the "I Love Mohammad" campaign, confirmed DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava. According to the police, the post was considered capable of disturbing communal harmony and inciting members of a particular community. The FIR said Sumaiya allegedly made the post after participating in a protest outside the Vidhan Bhavan on September 20 where she had held a placard reading "I Love Muhammad" in reaction to a recent incident in Kanpur. During the protest, she allegedly criticised the police action in that case, calling it "one-sided". Responding to reports of the FIR, Sumaiya released a video statement. "We have learned from sources that an FIR has been lodged at Qaiserbagh police station accusing me of making an inflammatory statement on social media," she said. "I never called for violence or told anyone to shoot. I only said that we are ready to face bullets with a smile," she claimed. htc...
