Mother, lover held for killing two-month-old daughter over affair
AYODHYA, Oct. 24 -- A woman and her lover were arrested for allegedly murdering her two-month-old baby girl on 19 October, claiming the infant was an obstacle to their illicit relationship. The case came to light on Thursday from Lakhanipur village under the Mawai police station limits.
Pooja, the mother, was married to Deshraj, a Mumbai-based labourer often away from home. Following disputes in the marriage, Pooja reportedly began a relationship with Satyanam, a local youth. In August, she gave birth to a daughter, whom the couple allegedly strangled to death, later misleading family members about the child's condition.
Station officer Suresh Patel said the motive stemmed from family disputes and the illicit affair.
Suspicion among relatives led to a police complaint. Authorities recovered the body, and a postmortem report confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. Both Pooja and Satyanam confessed during questioning. Family members claimed police delayed action for two days after the complaint, but arrests were made following the postmortem report....
