Meerut, Nov. 5 -- Thirteen years after a taxi driver was murdered and his vehicle looted, a court in Moradabad district finally delivered justice, sentencing the main accused, Mohd Faraz, to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs.35,000. The court's verdict brings closure to a brutal crime that had shocked the Saifni region of Moradabad district in 2012.According to case details, the incident dates back to August 10, 2012. That night, Faraz, a resident of Eidgah, along with his two accomplices, reached the house of one Komal Singh in Majhra Ka Kheda village. Singh's son, Sumit Kumar, who worked as a taxi driver, was asked to take them on a trip. Sumit agreed and left with the three men in his car. However, he never returned home. When Sumit's family could not reach him over the phone, which was found switched off, they began searching for him. The next day, they were devastated to learn that Sumit had been murdered, and his body had been dumped in the Baniyather police station area. Following the complaint lodged by Komal Singh at the Saifni police outpost on August 11, police registered an FIR against Faraz and two others. The investigation led to their arrest and the recovery of Sumit's body, his looted vehicle, and mobile phone.During the trial, assistant district government counsel (ADGC) Pramod Sagar represented the prosecution and produced 11 witnesses, including the complainant. The prosecution maintained that Sumit was strangled to death by the accused, after which his body was thrown into roadside bushes in Moradabad's Baniyather area. The defense argued that Faraz had been falsely implicated. However, after reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Faraz guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.35,000.Two of Faraz's accomplices were juveniles at the time of the crime. Their cases were transferred to the Juvenile Justice Court, where hearings are ongoing, and separate verdicts will be issued, ADGC said.htc...
