Mool Niwas Samiti to hold stir over land law
Dehradun, Nov. 30 -- The Mool-Niwas Bhoo-Kanoon Samvanya Sangharsh Samiti will stage a dharna in Dehradun, seeking redressal of "loopholes in the land law" and demanding "necessary amendments. The committee claimed that the new land law fails to reflect Uttarakhand's local conditions, geographical realities, and population pressure. "As a result, it neither ensures land security for local residents nor effectively prevents outside interference," it said.
Committee convener Lusun Todaria said that despite the introduction of a new land law, large-scale land grabbing by mafias continue across the state.
He said municipalities and town councils should be under the ambit of the land law.
Todaria said the state BJP government should also clear its stand on the declaration of 1950 as the cut off for the domicile, and inclusion of hilly areas of the state in the 5th Schedule of the Constitution.
In February, the Uttarakhand assembly passed the Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950) Amendment Bill, 2025, which prohibits non-residents from purchasing agricultural and horticultural land in 11 of the state's 13 districts....
