Mohun Bagan refuse to travel to Iran for ACL2, approach CAS
Kolkata, Sept. 28 -- Mohun Bagan Super Giant have pulled out of Tuesday's Asian Champions League 2 away tie to Sepahan in Iran citing safety of players, officials and staff. In an Instagram post on Saturday, the club said it will approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport "to seek a fair resolution and safeguard its interests."
"Our players and their families have expressed concern over travel to Iran. The club after due consideration is thoughtful of their request for safety," the message said. The ISL double winners said CAS was approached "after careful consideration of the government advisories and potential uncovered risks involved."
The message comes after the AFC had turned down the club's request to shift the tie to a neutral venue because travel advisories of some countries from where they have players and staff say it is dangerous to visit Iran.
The club had also asked AFC to elaborate how it felt travel to Isfahan, about 450km from Tehran, where Sepahan are based, was safe....
