GORAKHPUR, July 7 -- Moharram processions concluded peacefully across Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, and Maharajganj districts on Sunday, with police reporting only a few isolated disturbances in Kushinagar and Deoria, police officials confirmed.
In Kushinagar's Gulhariya village under Khadda police station, tensions flared allegedly after objections were raised to an Islamic flag being waved near a Shiva temple during a procession. A video of the incident circulated on social media, prompting unrest. Station house officer (SHO) Harshvardhan Singh said the police intervened promptly and detained several youths accused of spreading misinformation. In another incident in Tekuar village under Ramkola police station, a dispute over the use of a DJ and alleged provocative slogans led to a clash. A youth named Akhlaq sustained injuries in the resulting stampede-like situation. Police teams arrived at the spot and restored normalcy.
In Deoria's Baghuch Ghat area, four youths were taken into custody for wearing T-shirts bearing pro-Palestine slogans, which caused minor unrest during the procession....
