Mob attacks police during probe in Gorakhpur village
GORAKHPUR, Sept. 30 -- At least two police sub-inspectors were injured when a mob attacked them during a molestation investigation in Sariya village under Chauri Chura police station limits in Gorakhpur on Sunday night. Police vehicles and nearby property were also vandalised before law enforcement restored order.
Circle officer Anurag Singh said police responded after receiving a complaint from a BSc student whose mother was away on duty at a hospital. The girl alleged that miscreants were bursting crackers near her room and attempting to break the shutter of her residence on the second floor of a complex.
Sub-inspectors Shiv Kumar Yadav and Promod Yadav sustained injuries, though police confirmed they were not specifically targeted by the mob. Officers detained six youths, and investigations are ongoing. A police vehicle and a worker's scooter parked nearby were damaged during the unrest.
CO Anurag Singh assured that full security has been provided to the girl and her mother, with two constables deployed at the site. He warned that strict action will be taken against those obstructing law enforcement, adding that violence against on-duty officers will not be tolerated....
