MLA's vehicle assembly pass stolen, FIR lodged
Kanpur, May 24 -- Surendra Maithani, the BJP MLA from Govind Nagar, has filed an FIR regarding the theft of his official Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly pass from his vehicle during routine servicing.
According to the FIR lodged with Maharajpur police station, the MLA's personal vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner (UP 78 FF 1111), was deposited at Sunny Toyota service centre in Rooma industrial area on May 17 for regular maintenance. The car was returned to Maithani on the evening of May 21, at which point he noticed the assembly pass affixed to the vehicle was missing.
When contacted, Maithani expressed concern over the potential misuse of the missing pass, warning that it could be employed in criminal or organised illegal activity. "This is a matter of state security and the authorities must take immediate action," he said.
Service centre officials reportedly informed the MLA that CCTV footage showed the pass was intact when the vehicle arrived but was absent when it left the premises, he said, adding that the company has initiated an internal inquiry.
DCP, East, Satyajit Gupta, said that the police are investigating the case, and the focus was on recovery of the pass....
