Missing teen's remains found after months, two arrested
Meerut, Feb. 13 -- The Bareilly district police solved a sensational case stemming from the disappearance of a teenage girl over a year ago, exposing a double murder, and arresting two suspects who were allegedly planning to escape to West Bengal.
The accused - Salim Hussain and Asim alias Amit alias "Dr Bengali"- were apprehended on February 11 near Bauria Cut ahead of Bhauwa Bazaar.
The case began on January 8, 2025, when a villager lodged a complaint about his 16-year-old daughter going missing at Kyoladiya police station.
During investigation, a major clue surfaced in September 2025, when a braided lock of hair, clothes, and skeletal remains were recovered from a sugarcane field near the Kailash river. DNA testing later confirmed the remains belonged to the missing girl. Following the forensic confirmation, additional charges under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the BNS were added.
Investigators traced suspicious activity through mobile call detail records, which indicated that Salim Hussain, a resident of the same village, had been in frequent contact with the teenager and was located in the same area as her on the night she disappeared.
After securing court permission to conduct a polygraph test, police issued a notice to Salim, who fled soon afterward. Further inquiries revealed that he worked at a clinic in Bhauwa Bazaar with co-accused Asim alias Dr. Bengali.
According to police, both men were preparing to escape to Kolkata when they were intercepted and arrested. During interrogation, Salim allegedly confessed that he had called the girl out at night, taken her to a sugarcane field, strangled her, dumped her body there, and thrown her mobile phone into a river. Police said he was in a romantic relationship with the victim.
Investigators said Asim alias Dr Bengali also admitted to involvement in an earlier killing. He allegedly confessed that in 2017 he conspired to murder his wife, Rajni, due to marital disputes. Police claim he and Salim strangled her near the Kailash river and buried the body.
A case related to that incident had already been registered at Bhuta police station.
Police records show Salim Hussain, 22, has multiple criminal cases against him, including robbery, attempted murder, and violations under the Arms Act, and is now named in two murder cases. Asim alias Amit alias Dr. Bengali, originally from West Bengal, has previously been booked in kidnapping and Pocso Act cases and is also accused in his wife's murder.
Superintendent of police (North) Mukesh Kumar Mishra said joint teams of surveillance, cyber cell, and the Special Operations Group solved the case using technical evidence. He added that legal proceedings are underway against both accused and further investigation is continuing. Police are preparing to file charge sheets in both cases....
